Communities of Pretoria West,
As we approach the festive season—a time that should be filled with joy, family, and celebration—African Texture Entertainment is compelled to raise a serious alarm regarding the terrifying surge in violent crime gripping our neighbourhoods.
Recent tragic events in and around Atteridgeville serve as a stark reminder that we must remain hyper-vigilant. The safety of our families, our children, and our businesses is under threat. We urge all residents to exercise extreme caution as criminal syndicates and opportunists increase their activities during this period.
We are deeply concerned by the following recent reports causing fear in our community:
- Tragedy at Saulsville Hostel: We are heartbroken by the horrific mass shooting that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 6 December 2025, at the Saulsville Hostel. Reports confirm that 12 people have lost their lives (10 at the scene and 2 in hospital), with at least 13 others wounded. Most devastatingly, the victims include three innocent children aged 3, 12, and 16. We extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families. This senseless violence against our most vulnerable is unacceptable.
- Attempted Robbery at the Nkomo Village: We have received disturbing reports of a recent brazen attempted robbery at Nkomo Village. Shopping centres are becoming high-risk zones, and we urge shoppers to remain vigilant, avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and report suspicious vehicles or individuals immediately.
- ATM Shooting and Robbery at Danville Superspar: The recent violence has spilt over into Danville, with reports of a shooting and robbery involving an ATM at the Superspar. These attacks on public infrastructure put innocent bystanders in the crossfire. Please exercise caution when using ATMs, especially during early mornings or late evenings.
We call upon the South African Police Service (SAPS) to immediately increase visibility and deploy rapid response units in these hotspots. However, as a community, we must also look out for one another.
Safety Tips for the Festive Season:
- Avoid Late Nights: Try to conclude your movements and shopping while it is still light.
- Be Aware at ATMs: If possible, use banking apps or withdraw cash inside secure malls rather than at exposed street-side ATMs.
- Report Suspicious Activity: Do not ignore strange cars or individuals loitering near your homes or businesses. Call the police or your local CPF immediately.
- Group Safety: There is safety in numbers. Avoid walking or travelling alone where possible.
